Publishing my first book was a very confusing time. On one hand, I was super-excited and on the other, I was dreadfully nervous. Unfortunately, though, I had more questions than answers. And everywhere I looked seemed to yield only conflicting information.
Despite these traps and obstacles, somehow I managed to accomplish the task - albeit resulting in a spectacular trainwreck. But that experience provided me a place to begin learning and develop a process. That is if I decided to continue on this journey and attempt to unscramble this puzzle...
Too Much of a Good Thing
Depending on how you word your searches, one can easily find a multitude of information on writing and publishing a book. This vague oversaturation of advice and guidance litters the internet, from blogs addressing "How to Self-Publish" to videos on "What is Copy Editing" and "How do I Market my book". So much information exists, it is a rather difficult feat to find any definitive answers to these honest questions. And before long, you are locked in the downward spiral of research more than actually writing. Frustratingly, you find yourself yelling at the search engine, unable to precisely word what it is you are searching for, and verging on the brink of throwing in the towel.
Don't Give Up
With every book I have written and released, I have learned very specific lessons. Sometimes it would be social media campaigns, email marketing, using new editing software, launch teams and the list goes on. But I had to begin and be willing to fail, just to learn and know exactly what it was that I didn't know. In hindsight, all of this effort was not only to make me a better writer, publisher, or business owner but a better teacher.
